The Keys to Piano Programme

Gain the skills you need to make piano playing your number one source of relaxation and enjoyment, in just twelve weeks!

Does this sound familiar?

You had piano lessons at a child, but you gave up in your teen years because it became too hard, or boring, or life got in the way. You hated practising. You wish your parents hadn’t let you give up. Or maybe the lessons were just too rigid, the teacher was too strict, and you found practice fell to the bottom of your priorities list.

Imagine this scenario..

You come home from a long day at work, pour a drink (tea/wine/gin… delete as appropriate!), sit down at the piano and play your favourite music. You are able to read the music, understand what is on the page, and play with expression and joy. You feel the cares of the day wash away as you immerse yourself in creative expression.

Does this sound appealing?!

Introducing: The Keys To Piano Programme with Lydia Tomita

Learn how to effectively read, understand, and practice the music that you love, and become the independent musician you’ve always wished you could be.

♥'Lydia is simply fantastic. She is a superb pianist and also a truly lovely person. She tackles all types of music and is totally professional in everything she does. Not only that but she listens to what YOU want and delivers accordingly. In truth I cannot recommend her too highly.'♥

What makes The Keys to Piano Programme different to other piano courses?

Instead of starting at the beginning of a method book and working through week by week, this programme looks at the individual elements required to play the piano well which are taught as individual modules. These can then be pieced together like a jigsaw to enable you to play music that you love, and play it well.

This programme will not only teach you how to play your favourite repertoire, but it will also teach you how to play chords from a lead sheet and how to create your own arrangement of a song. You will learn how to learn and practise how to practise, giving you the skills to be an effective and efficient learner.

By the end of this programme, you’ll be able to:

♩ Understand music theory so that you can find music that you love and learn to play it independently.

♩ Sightread effectively so that reading music isn’t a chore but a source of joy!

♩ Understand how to read chords and play from a lead sheet so you can easily learn many popular songs.

Learn effective piano technique enabling you to produce the best possible sound – making you look and sound like a pro!

♩ Practise intentionally and efficiently enabling you to grow as a musician and create the music you love.

Explore different repertoire and find music that lights you up – and then have the tools to play it.

Create your own arrangement of a song, allowing you to explore a wider range of music.

Learn how to accompany others or yourself (if you sing!) so that you can make music with friends and family.

Let go of negative attitudes towards learning an instrument and rediscover the joy of learning and creating.

Perform for friends and family, either in person or on video (optional!) so that you can share your music with your loved ones.

Here’s what you’re going to get:

♥ 'Lydia is a kind and encouraging teacher. I was very nervous about getting back into piano lessons as an adult but Lydia put me right at ease. She took the time to listen to my goals and helped me to choose music I would enjoy playing. I highly recommend Lydia for all age groups but especially if you are nervous about starting lessons later in life.' ♥

Hi, I’m Lydia from the Cotswold Piano Studio and I can’t wait to meet you in my Keys to Piano Programme.

I’ve lived and breathed the piano since I was 6 years old. I had lessons as a child and spent all my free time practising, exploring and of course - playing for fun. Now as an adult I love nothing more than playing for pleasure, and teaching others how to do so! I currently teach piano in 3 schools in the Cotswolds, as well as privately in my home. My students range from 6-85 years old! I can’t tell you how often I hear the phrase ‘I had piano lessons as a child – I wish I’d never given up, but it’s too late now.’ It’s not too late and I really believe that there is no time limit on music.

I love to perform and have played at a high level with orchestras, accompanying choirs, playing for weddings and other opportunities as they arise. You can look out for me performing Shostakovich with the Burford Orchestra in July 2025! Music for me is a source of peace and joy in a chaotic world and I’d love to share that with YOU.

♥ ‘Thanks for your continued brilliance and inspiring teaching and modelling by example your love for piano playing.’ ♥

FAQ

How much time will this take out of my schedule?

This course includes 12 hours of one to one time. This is divided into 8 90min sessions over 4 months. This gives you some flexibility depending on what your week looks like. I provide a Calendly link and you can choose your times from my availability. In addition, there will be your self study time at home. This is really down to you but I recommend spending some time 5 days a week, at least 30mins if possible – to get the best possible outcome whilst we are working together.

What if I can’t afford this right now?

This is an understandable concern. Taking on any kind of extracurricular activity is always an investment and it is up to you if music is where you want to invest your money and your time. The goal of this programme is to enable you to be independent in learning music that you love, rather than being an ongoing payment. It is a short term investment for long term gains! However, if you really can’t afford it right now, please don’t put yourself in debt. I will still be here whenever you are ready.

What if I’m not good enough?

Then you are the perfect person for this programme! People who are already proficient musicians don’t need this course. I LOVE working with people to build solid foundations and see their improvements and growth.

What if I sign up for this and then don’t have the time and energy to get results?

There is a built-in flexibility in this programme as we have 8 sessions over the 12 weeks of the course. Therefore if you are having a week where you are feeling particularly tired then we don’t need to have a session that week. During the course we work on how to fit in practice and make it effective in the midst of busy lives, as this is a challenge for absolutely everyone!

What happens if I need to cancel a session?

The programme needs to be completed within 4 months from the start date. This means that there are around 16 weeks to fit in 8 sessions. If all sessions aren’t taken during this time then they are forfeited. This is the time to really invest in yourself!
